Meet Colleen Turner

My name is Colleen Turner. I am a licensed teacher in Oklahoma, with teaching certifications in English (grades 5–12), ESL (grades PK–12), and Elementary Education (grades 1–8). I have taught in Massachusetts, Texas, and Oklahoma. I have ten years of teaching experience in middle and high schools. I have taught English, Reading, and English as a Second Language for grades 5–12. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in English in 2015. I earned my master’s degree in Teaching and Curriculum from Boston University in 2017 and second master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Cameron University in 2021.

I consider myself a life-long learner, always eager to learn new ways to engage my students and instill a love of learning within them. I love teaching literature classes because I believe stories teach us about ourselves and the world around us. Literature builds critical thinking skills, discussion skills, and reading and writing skills which are crucial to student success, both academically and personally. I love building relationships with students and connecting our curriculum to who they are and their passions to engage them and help develop their interests and goals. My favorite part about teaching is seeing students become excited about the material as well as seeing their academic and personal growth through the course of our time together. I want students to be able to recognize their own growth and be confident in themselves as learners. I am a passionate teacher who cares deeply about student success and strives to help students reach the highest level of success possible, both academically and personally.

I currently reside in Oklahoma with my husband, daughter, and two dogs. I love reading, traveling, and teaching! I love getting to know people and visiting new places. From an early age, I learned that I did not always have to leave my home to do this; I could use books to explore new places or learn about different people. I think this is where my love of reading and books began. From my love of reading began my love for teaching. I love to help students learn, grow, and reach their academic goals.
