  • Our ELA classes help students who would like to develop their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills before launching into literature classes.

Unlike a literature class, which emphasizes rigorous critical analysis of a specific text, an ELA class will engage students with a variety of texts and writing styles to help them learn about and practice basic reading strategies, vocabulary, grammar and writing conventions, and rudimentary textual analysis.

    Featured Class:

Reading Strategies: Our Reading Strategies class meets students where they’re currently at so that they are appropriately challenged but not overwhelmed. Class levels are determined by Lexile scores, but the class components are the same regardless of level: reading practice and book reviews. Students read multiple passages from famous works every class session to practice different reading techniques and recognize literary devices. Students also write and present reviews of books they read independently to apply the active reading techniques they’ve learned, develop effective communication skills, and gain confidence and fluency.

  • Our classes are designed for students who wish to enhance their understanding and appreciation of classic literature through rigorous study and in-depth conversations.

In addition to literary deep dives during class, literature students will also receive personalized feedback on their writing and access to numerous resources to continue their learning outside of the classroom.

Ready to get started? After a brief consultation, we will recommend a class that meets your needs and provides an appropriate challenge. Alternatively, you can request to form or join a class to study a particular book.

  • Spanning ancient and modern systems of reasoning, our logic classes introduce students to the structure of thought itself. From Aristotle’s syllogisms to digital circuits and propositional logic, students learn to recognize valid arguments, evaluate reasoning, and apply logical frameworks across disciplines.

  • We offer classes and tutoring to help students prepare for a variety of national and international standardized tests, including the following:

    • School entrance exams: ACT, SAT, and SSAT

    • English proficiency tests: TOEFL and IELTS

    • AP exams

If you need help preparing for one or more of these exams, contact us today! After a brief consultation, we will place you with a dedicated instructor who is familiar with the test(s) you will be taking and who can help you earn a great score.

  • Our STEM classes help high school and college students develop foundational skills and excel in the natural sciences and mathematics.

These classes can be used to supplement learning in a traditional classroom, to introduce more advanced concepts that are not taught in your school, to prepare for competitions and tests, or to explore theories and applications that inform how we think about and interact with our world.

    Featured Classes:

AMC Math: Our math course prepares students for the AMC10 through a combination of problem-solving strategies, intuitive reasoning, and conceptual exploration. Using First Steps for Math Olympians, students develop the analytical and creative thinking skills needed for success in mathematical competitions and beyond.

Physics: This high school physics class guides students through the fundamental principles that govern the natural world, from motion and energy to electricity and waves. Emphasizing conceptual clarity, mathematical modeling, and Socratic inquiry, the course helps learners build a strong foundation in both theory and applied problem solving.

  • Students in our history classes will learn about important movements and moments that shaped our past and influenced political, social, and cultural changes. Our classes focus on teaching history with primary documents from important thinkers of the time and emphasize contextualization and critical thinking, not simply memorizing dates and events.

Our current class offerings pertain to the founding of the United States of America and the revolutionary politics and philosophies that influenced its development.

    Featured Class:

The Essential Works of Thomas Paine: In this class, students will learn about the Enlightenment, the American Revolution, the French Revolution, American and European politics, and basic political theory by studying six of Thomas Paine’s most important works—Common Sense, The American Crisis, Rights of Man, The Age of Reason, and Agrarian Justice—and related historical resources and analyses. This class is recommended for advanced students with an interest in American history, political theory, and Enlightenment thinking.

If you don’t see what you need, let us know. We work with schools to create curriculum and design classes so that teachers can meet district objectives without having to spend their valuable time creating materials from scratch. Pricing for individualized packages varies based on what the package includes and how quickly it is needed.

  • Much of our pre-made curriculum is designed for middle school, high school, and college classes. However, we have materials for younger students available as well, and we are happy to work with teachers and schools to design lessons for any grade level.

  • All of our lessons and study materials are designed by subject experts who have degrees in a relevant field and, importantly, have experience teaching the subject.

  • Lifetime digital curriculum packages for schools are typically $999. However, curriculum packages for longer periods of study may cost more. Pricing for curriculum packages that are created by request for a particular school or district will depend on the subject(s) being covered, the number of units or lessons requested, and the turnaround time. Pricing for add-on services and additional resources likewise depends on the particular service or resource, as well as estimated time and financial costs for CEDAR. Discounts may be available for certain packages, services, and districts.

Curriculum Packages and Services for Families

We know that curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking are essential skills for lifelong learning and character development. We also know that many students require more than a traditional classroom education to learn these skills and reach their full potential. Our curriculum packages help families, guardians, and mentors enrich their students’ education and foster a love of learning at home, whether in place of traditional education options or as a supplement to them.

An important component of any education is knowing how to continue learning. In addition to curriculum packages, we are happy to offer academic counseling so that you can design the educational journey that is right for your family. This includes help navigating the college application and admissions process, determining what classes and tests to take and when to take them, connecting with schools and programs of interest, setting academic and professional goals, and more.

  • Our curriculum emphasizes engagement, in-depth thinking, and skill development through rigorous lessons that can be tailored to students by the people who know them best. We provide a variety of activities for each lesson so that you can choose what your students learn and how they learn it.

To respect all learners, our lessons generally do not endorse a particular worldview or belief system. However, the many opportunities for discussion and personal reflection help students explore their principles and allow parents to impart their family’s values and personalize their students’ learning. You know best what your students need to learn, so we encourage families and mentors to use our materials as a guide: We provide expert academic materials; you provide the principles and lens through which to teach them.

You don’t need to be an expert or an experienced teacher to help your students learn, especially because curriculum packages come with explanations, answers, teaching notes, and links to additional resources. However, we are happy to help families and mentors effectively tailor the materials to suit their needs or engage their students. Please get in touch with us to learn more!

  • Families who purchase curriculum packages from us have the option of adding on a learning supplement package that includes access to IXL and Scholastic’s Literacy Pro for only $99 per year. These tools allow families and mentors to assess their students’ progress, assign adaptive learning activities and topics to study, and help their students develop important skills, no matter where they are or what level they’re at, because flexibility and personalization are important.

Families can also request teacher reviews for a small additional fee. With this, our teachers provide written feedback on students’ work, including writing assignments, comprehension assessments, and other activities included in our curriculum packages. Feedback on writing or work not included in our curriculum packages can also be purchased for an extra fee.

  • Traditional schooling is the right choice for some families. Homeschooling is the right choice for others. Regardless of which option is right for your family, it is important that you have a voice in your students’ learning. Our materials give you the opportunity to influence their education, no matter what form it takes.

Because our curriculum packages are designed by teachers and subject-matter experts but offer opportunities for customization, they are perfect for families and mentors looking to provide their students with rigorous learning opportunities in more flexible, personalized environments, including

    • Homeschools and homeschooling communities

    • Self-paced home study outside of school or during school holidays

    • After-school or summer programs offered by schools and communities

    • Small literacy organizations and clubs

    • Tutoring

    • And more!

You can also influence your students’ education by working with our experts to design materials specifically tailored to your students’ needs: You tell us what you want your students to learn, and a team of teachers and subject-matter experts will create materials for you and for your students based on your requests and recommendations. Pricing for personalized curricular materials varies, depending on the subject matter, type and amount of curriculum requested, and turnaround time.

THE FINE PRINT:

Classes and Tutoring: Classes usually enroll only 1-6 students to provide more opportunities for engagement, tailored instruction and feedback, and good rapport. Prices vary depending on the type of service or class, number of class sessions, class size, applicable discounts, and other factors. Payment is due at time of enrollment, though we are happy to provide refunds if a student has to drop a class and informs the instructor before leaving. However, refunds are not given retroactively for regular absences except in special circumstances, and students who miss multiple sessions without advance notice may be charged for the missed class time. Hourly rates are split among enrolled students, so larger classes lower the cost per student: a class with six (6) students is $40/hour per student, whereas a class with two (2) students is $80/hour per student and one (1) student is $150/hour.

Curriculum Packages for Schools: Fee does not include tax. Hardcopy materials and teacher training services can be purchased for an additional cost. Teachers/districts can also choose to outsource teacher feedback on student work to our qualified instructors for an additional fee. Please contact us at learn@cedar.education to learn more about curriculum packages or to request additional services for your district or classroom. Curricular materials may be reproduced, distributed, and adapted within the district; reproduction or distribution outside of the district, as well as resale of any part of the curriculum or the information therein, is prohibited.

Curriculum Packages for Families: Fee does not include tax or shipping of hard-copy materials. At least one curricular package must be purchased during each calendar year to stay enrolled in additional learning services.  Included teacher feedback only applies to homework and writing assignments from purchased curriculum packages, though additional teacher feedback on writing not related to purchased curriculum can be negotiated. Please contact us at learn@cedar.education for questions about curriculum packages or to request additional teacher feedback unrelated to purchased curriculum. Reproduction or resale of curricular materials is prohibited without written permission.
